BREWSTER, MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth’s golf team shot a team score of 323 for a two-day total of 645 and finished 20th in a 37-team field at the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Fall Championships, which concluded Tuesday at the par-72 Captains Golf Course.
The tournament includes teams from all three NCAA divisions. Rhode Island led the way with a score of 585, while Husson led the field in Division III at 613. The Corsairs ranked 10th of the 21 Division III teams in the field.
Individually, junior Nick Jagoe (Westport, MA/Westport HS) shot a 79 and sophomore Matt Connolly (Lynnfield, MA/Lynnfield HS) shot an 83, and both finished at 161 and tied for 80th. Sophomore Brandon Oldham (Mattapoisett, MA/ORR HS/Allegheny/BCC) shot an 80 for a total of 162 and tied for 92nd, senior Scott Woodacre (Westborough, MA/Westborough HS) shot an 81 for a total of 163 and tied for 94th, and freshman Billy Guilford (Halifax, MA/Silver Lake Regional HS) shot a 93 and finished at 173 and tied for 148th.
“I was disappointed,” said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Joel Baptista. “We haven’t played as well as we are capable of playing for the last three days. The effort was there, but we need to execute. We’ve got a lot of work to do in the next few weeks to prepare for the GNACs.”
The Corsairs will return to action at the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championships October 30th and 31st.
