BREWSTER, MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's men's golf team shot a team score of 332 for a 36-hole total of 659 and finished 27th overall in a 39-team field at the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Championships, which concluded with play on the Port Course at The Captain's Golf Course on Tuesday. UMass Dartmouth was 12th of the 21 NCAA Division III teams in the field.
Junior Matt Munden (Brockton, MA/Brockton HS) shot an 84 for a two-day total of 164 and tied for 106th, junior Scott Woodacre (Westborough, MA/Westborough HS) shot an 80 for 165 and tied for 111th, senior Rob Leaver (Lakeville, MA/Apponequet HS) shot an 83 for 167 and tied for 124th, sophomore Nick Jagoe (Westport, MA/Westport HS) shot an 85 for 168 and freshman Conor O'Malley (Holliston, MA/Holliston HS) shot an 88 for 168, and both players tied for 134th.
"We're disappointed in the way we played." said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Joel Baptista. "We are going to have to play better this weekend to have a shot to win. Scott Woodacre came back and played a fairly decent round today, but, in general, we didn't capitalize on our opportunities."
The Corsairs will host the Great Northeast Athletic Conference championships at Allendale Country Club this weekend. The tournament winner will earn the GNAC's automatic berth in the NCAA Division III Championships next spring.
