BOSTON, MA- Senior George Gillmore (Cotuit, MA/Barnstable HS/Fairfield) of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's men's golf team has been honored by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference.
Gillmore earned the honor of being this season's first GNAC Player of the Week.
Gillmore led the Corsairs at last weekend's Duke Nelson Invitational at Middlebury, shooting an 80 Saturday and a 73 Sunday to finish with a 36-hole total of 153 and tie for 19th place. Sunday's round was Gilmore's best as a Corsair.
"This is a well-deserved honor for George," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Joel Baptista. "He had a nice tournament in Middlebury. George is a grinder and during the second round where he shot 73, he got up and down at least a half dozen times to save par. George's temperament of never getting too high or too low is one of his greatest assets, and he is extremely coachable. George worked hard this summer and we hope this is the type of play we can expect from him moving forward."
The Corsairs will return to action at the Eastern College Athletic Conference championships in two weeks.
