MINNEAPOLIS, MN-A member of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's hockey team has been named one of the top six rookies in the nation.
Freshman defenseman Steve Ginand (Milford, MA/Northern Cyclones-AtJHL) is one of two defenseman on United States College Hockey Online's six-player Division III All-Rookie Team.
Ginand led Corsair defensemen in scoring with seven goals and 14 assists for 21 points, was second on the team with five power play goals and tied for second with three power play goals. He was second in scoring among Massachusetts Collegiate Athletic Conference defensemen, and was the top scoring MASCAC freshman in points and assists.
"Steve Ginand being named as one of the top six rookies in the country pretty much caps an outstanding freshman year for him," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach John Rolli. "The season he had for us offensively was outstanding, and there aren't too many teams that didn't make the NCAA Tournament that are represented on the US College Hockey Online all-star teams."
