Williams, Ginand Earn MASCAC Weekly Honors
Freshman defenseman Steve Ginand
BUZZARDS BAY, MA- Two members of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's hockey team have been honored by the Massachusetts Collegiate Athletic Conference.
Junior goaltender Ryan Williams (Milton, ON/Huntsville Otters-OPJHL) has been named Goaltender of the Week, and freshman defenseman Steve Ginand (Milton, MA/Northern Cyclones-AtJHL) has been named Co-Player of the Week. It's the third such honor for Williams this season, and the second for Ginand.
Williams posted a pair of victories for UMass Dartmouth last week, allowing two goals in each game as the Corsairs defeated Plymouth State and Framingham State. He made 29 saves in a 3-2 win against Plymouth State and 27 stops in a 6-2 win against the Rams, and posted a .933 save percentage for the week.
Ginand scored a goal and added three assists last week. He scored the game-winning goal against the Panthers, .and added an assist against PSU and two assists against Framingham State. He leads the MASCAC in freshman scoring, defense scoring, and power play points.
"Steve Ginand continues to impress with his offensive play on the blue line," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach John Rolli. "His goals are usually key goals, either coming on the power play or a game-winner, as was the case against Plymouth State. Ryan Williams continues to be the most consistent goaltender in the league. You know exactly what you are going to get from him in each and every game, and last week was no exception. We won twice, despite being outshot in both games. Ryan has played very well for us this season."
UMass Dartmouth is 12-5-1 and 8-3-1 in the MASCAC. The Corsairs will return to action when they visit Stonehill Tuesday evening.
