BUZZARDS BAY, MA- Freshman defenseman Steve Ginand (Milford, MA/Northern Cyclones-AtJHL) has been honored by the Massachusetts Collegiate Athletic Conference. Ginand has been named MASCAC Hockey Player of the Week.

Ginand scored both goals in UMass Dartmouth's 2-1 overtime victory over Babson Saturday. He broke a scoreless tie with a power play goal at 7:30 of the third period, scoring on a screened slap shot from the point. In overtime, he scored on an odd-man rush at 3:02, giving the Corsairs the win in their only action of the week.

Ginand has five goals and six assists for 11 points this season and leads the MASCAC in power play points, scoring by a defenseman and scoring by a freshman. He has four goals and three assists for seven points on the power play.

"Steve is a gifted offensive defenseman," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach John Rolli. "He leads the league in freshman scoring from the blue line and leads our team with four power play goals. Certainly, when he took the puck against Babson and went coast to coast for the game winner, it was a very skilled offensive play."

The Corsairs are 7-3-1 overall and 4-1-1 in the MASCAC and will return to action when they host Worcester State Thursday evening.
