NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- University of Massachusetts Dartmouth senior Dmitry Antipin (Novosibirsk, Russia) recently signed an amateur tryout contract with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the American Hockey League (AHL).
The Sound Tigers are the affiliate club of the National Hockey League's (NHL) New York Islanders. This past summer, Antipin was the only Division III collegiate player to participate in the New Jersey Devils Development Camp in Newark, N.J.
During the 2013-14 season, Antipin produced eight goals and three assists for 11 points. He scored at least a point in six consecutive contests to close out his career at UMass Dartmouth, including a pair of markers against Framingham State. Antipin matched his season-high with two points at Colby College by scoring a goal and handing out a helper. He was selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Offensive Player of the Week for his performances against Worcester State and the Rams.
As a junior, Antipin helped the Corsairs capture the 2012-13 MASCAC Championship and earn a berth into the 2013 NCAA Division III tournament. In 27 games, he scored 16 points, on seven goals and nine assists.
Antipin began his collegiate career at Finlandia University, where he registered nine points during his rookie campaign.
Bridgeport will return to action on Friday, March 14, when the Sound Tigers travel to the Manchester Monarchs before returning home to square off against the Worcester Sharks the following evening.
