WESTFIELD, Mass. – University of Massachusetts Dartmouth senior captain Mike Kelly (Stoneham, Mass.) was tabbed Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Ice Hockey Player of the Week on Monday, following a three-win week for the Corsairs in conference competition.
Kelly totaled seven points on five goals and two assists last week. Against Westfield State on Feb. 14, the forward added a security goal for UMass Dartmouth in the final minute with an empty-net score in the 2-0 victory. Two days later, he posted his first career hat trick in the Corsairs’ 5-2 win at Salem State to go along with an assist. UMass Dartmouth defeated the Vikings on the road for the first time since 2013. On Saturday, Kelly again potted a goal and tallied a helper, this time on Senior Day as the Corsairs matched their season-high offensive output with a 7-2 rout of Fitchburg State.
On the season, Kelly leads the Corsairs with 15 goals and owns a total of 14 assists. His 29 points ranks fourth in the MASCAC, and he sits tied with teammate Casey Shea (Woburn, Mass.) and Plymouth State’s Ryan Stevens with six shorthanded points.
UMass Dartmouth takes to the ice again tomorrow for the final regular-season contest, skating at Framingham State beginning at 7:30 p.m. The Corsairs will host a quarterfinal contest this coming Saturday in the MASCAC Tournament opening round.
