WESTFIELD, Mass. – University of Massachusetts Dartmouth senior Drew Michals (Newton, Mass.) collected his second Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) weekly award on Monday, taking Goalkeeper of the Week honors.
Michals backstopped the Corsairs to a 4-2 victory over conference foe Fitchburg State on Saturday, making 37 saves for his third-highest single-game total on the season. The senior captain registered 18 of his stops in the third period as UMass Dartmouth jumped ahead, keeping his team in front as the Corsairs posted three penalty kills. On the season, Michals owns a .899 save percentage and 355 total saves.
UMass Dartmouth entered the new year with its fourth-straight win, rising to 7-6-1 overall with a 4-2-1 MASCAC record. The Corsairs are currently the top scoring offense in the conference, averaging 4.14 goals per game and 58 total goals on the season. Additionally, UMass Dartmouth boasts four of the league’s top six individual scorers this season, topped by junior Jonathan Ruiz’s (Williamstown, N.J.) 22 points.
The Corsairs continue MASCAC play on Thursday, hosting Salem State at Hetland Arena with a 7:30 p.m. puck drop.
