Hockey Picked Third in MASCAC Pre-Season Poll

Nov. 4, 2011

BUZZARDS BAY, MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's hockey team has been picked to finish third in the 2010-11 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference pre-season poll.

The Corsairs, who were picked to finish fifth last season and won the regular season championship, received 33 points in the voting by MASCAC coaches, 12 points behind Salem State and 13 points behind Fitchburg State, which was picked to finish first.

Salem State was picked to finish second. Following the Corsairs in the poll were Plymouth State, with 28 points, Westfield State, with 20, Worcester State, with 15 points, and Framingham State, with nine.

"Certainly, the pre-season picks of Fitchburg and Salem in the top two spots reflects the fact that both have played in the last two MASCAC championship games," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach John Rolli. "Sometimes, pre-season selections are accurate, and sometimes, they are not. Last season, we were picked to come in fifth in the pre-season poll, and we finished first in the regular season standings. With our graduation losses, we have much work to do in the season ahead."

The Corsairs will open their 2011-2012 season when they visit Becker next Wednesday evening.
