NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth men's lacrosse team lost against visiting Roger Williams, 14-4, in a non-conference match at Cressy Field Thursday.

Trailing 2-0 in the second quarter, senior midfielder Stephen Espinola (Groton, MA/Groton-Dunstable HS) put the Corsairs on the scoreboard with an unassisted goal at the 11:22 mark. Hawks senior midfielder Jim Turenne (Bristol, RI/Mt. Hope HS) netted an unassisted goal with 9:54 remaining in the second quarter, giving RWU a 3-1 lead. Junior attacker Nick Brett (Loudon, NH/Merrimack Valley HS) cut the Corsairs deficit to one goal, 3-2, when he fired in his first goal of the game with 8:39 to play in the first half. Roger Williams exploded for ten consecutive goals, fueled by four goals from senior midfielder Logan Roebuck (Pine Bush, NY/Pine Bush HS), until Brett scored his second goal on the day, making the score 13-3 with 4:25 left to play in the fourth quarter. Roger Williams sophomore attacker Ian Powers (Shrewsbury, MA/Shrewsbury HS) scored the Hawks final goal with 3:08 on the clock. Corsairs junior midfielder Christian Roberto (Wakefield, MA/Malden Catholic HS) added a goal in the final minute of play, resulting in the 14-4 victory for Roger Williams.

Brett led the Corsairs with two goals during the contest. Espinola and Roberto each added a goal, while freshman midfielder Todd Davis (Sandwich, MA/Sandwich HS) had an assist.

Roger Williams had seven players who recorded a goal. Roebuck and junior attacker Dan Klink (Nashua, NH/Nashua HS) each had a game-high four goals. Sophomore attacker Drew Beck (South Salem, NY/John Jay-Crossriver HS) tallied two goals with two assists while Turenne and Powers both notched a goal and two assists.

"We weren't ready to play today," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Kevin Mahoney. "Unfortunately when everything started to go bad, we didn't handle it well and we didn't represent ourselves well today. There was too much of an individual effort instead of team play. [Roger Williams] is a very good team and we didn't respond well at all. We need to make a 180-degree turn going into our next game."

The Hawks outshot the Corsairs, 37-34. Freshman goalkeeper Nick Thayer (Chelmsford, MA/Chelmsford HS) made nine saves for UMD, while senior goalies Tyler Roebuck (Pine Bush, NY/Pine Bush HS) stopped 12 shots and Tom Hardon (Devon, PA/Forman School) made four saves in the fourth quarter.

UMass Dartmouth dropped to 9-2 with the loss, while Roger Williams improved to 7-5 with the win. The Corsairs will return to action when they visit Southern Maine Saturday. The Hawks will visit New England College Saturday.
