NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's men's lacrosse team will play a home playoff game for the first time in four years when they host Plymouth State Tuesday afternoon. Game time is 4:00 p.m. at Cressy Field, prior to the women's playoff game against Western Connecticut State.
The Corsairs enter the tournament as the fourth seeded team and have an overall record of 10-4 and a 3-3 Little East Conference mark. PSU us the fifth seed, and is 10-5 overall and 2-4 in LEC play.
UMass Dartmouth will be trying to defeat the Panthers for the second time this season. They won the regular season game between the teams, 13-6 at Cressy Field April 19th.
"We're looking forward to the challenge of trying to beat Plymouth State twice in the same year," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Kevin Mahoney. "I hope that we can return to the form we showed two weeks ago against Plymouth State."
The total of six goals against when the Corsairs played PSU represents the best defensive effort of the LEC regular season for UMass Dartmouth. Mahoney feels that his team must maintain their intensity defensively and play well offensively to be successful. "In order to win, we have to do a good job of running our offense," said Mahoney. "We also have to shoot the ball well."
The winner of Tuesday's game advances to play Eastern Connecticut State in the semi-finals Thursday afternoon.
