May 11, 2010

NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-Junior midfielder Stephen Espinola (Groton, MA/Groton-Dunstable HS) of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's men's lacrosse team has been honored by the Little East Conference.

Espinola has been named first team All-Little East Conference.

Espinola ranked fourth in scoring for the Corsairs this season with 21 goals and 10 assists for 31 points. He also picked up 17 ground balls and scored the game-winning goal against Massachusetts Maritime March 25th.

"I am excited for Stephen to be recognized by the coaches of the Little East for his play on the field," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Kevin Mahoney. "Stephen typifies the term student-athlete. He is a nursing major, he has been on the Dean's List for the past few semesters, he has worked hard in the classroom, improved his conditioning, and has been a role model for our players to follow in all aspects of campus life. He will be one of our leaders for next year, and will be one of the captains for the 2011 team. Stephen is a pleasure to coach, and we are glad to have him as part of the UMass Dartmouth community."

The Corsairs finished the season at 7-10 and advanced to the quarter-finals of the LEC Tournament.
