NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-Cory Tobler scored on a breakaway 2:56 into sudden death overtime and host Eastern Connecticut State came from behind to defeat the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's men's soccer team, 2-1, in a Little East Conference match on the final day of the regular season at the Mansfield Athletic Complex Saturday.
The Corsairs had taken a 1-0 lead when sophomore midfielder Jordan Sindo (New Bedford, MA/New Bedford HS) scored in the 65th minute. Matt Furman tied the score for ECSU when he one-timed home a cross from eight yards out in the 81st minute.
UMD played a man down after junior forward Victor Ferreira (St. Michael, Portugal/New Bedford HS).was issued a red card and sent off in the 53rd minute.
The Warriors outshot the Corsairs, 16-12. UMD senior goalkeeper Mike Phelan (Carver, MA/Carver HS) made five saves, while Jordan Munsell made two stops for ECSU.
UMass Dartmouth dropped to 11-6-0 and 5-2-0 with the defeat, while Eastern Connecticut improved to 15-1-1 and 6-0-1 with the victory. Both teams will return to action when the LEC playoffs begin next week.
