Men's Soccer Drops 2-0 Season Opening Decision At Framingham State

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. --  Freshman Vinicius Veiga (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) netted a goal and an assist to lead Framingham State to a 2-0 non-league college men's soccer victory over UMass Dartmouth in the season opener for both schools Friday afternoon at Maple Street Field.

Junior Bryce Nardizzi (Framingham, Mass.) gave the host Rams (1-0) the only tally they would need in the 32nd minute on a feed from Veiga, who provided an insurance marker less than four minutes later to account for the scoring.  Junior Corey Davidge (Blackstone, Mass.) made that stand up with five saves in net for Framingham State, including three in the opening 45 minutes of action.

Junior Danny Andrade (New Bedford, Mass.) made a pair of first half stops in suffering the setback in goal for the visiting Corsairs (0-1), who received a second half save from freshman Jacob Castro (Swansea, Mass.).  The Rams outshot UMass Dartmouth by a 14-11 margin overall, but both teams ended the day with five shots on goal apiece.  The Corsairs held a 7-5 advantage in corner kicks for the contest.

UMass Dartmouth heads to Worcester, Mass. on Saturday afternoon to take on WPI in a non-league outing that begins at 3:00 p.m., while Framingham State travels to East Boston, Mass. on Monday afternoon to square off with Suffolk in a non-league clash beginning at Noon.
