SALEM, Mass. -- Junior Grace Dos Santos (Brockton, Mass.) scored the golden goal 1:01 into overtime to lift Salem State to a 2-1 non-league college men’s soccer victory over UMass Dartmouth Wednesday evening at Alumni Field.
Dos Santos converted a pass from sophomore Lucas Amaral (Peabody, Mass.) on the deciding tally for the host Vikings (6-1), who overcame a 1-0 deficit after sophomore Joe Morehead (Fairhaven, Mass.) had given the visiting Corsairs (0-5-1) the lead in the 53rd minute with his first goal of the season. Sophomore Edwin Demoya (Salem, Mass.) evened matters for Salem State in the 66th minute after taking a feed from fellow sophomore Dominique Panmo (Lynn, Mass.), setting up Dos Santos for the game-winner in the extra session.
Junior Christopher Jimenez (Nashua, N.H.) earned his sixth win of the year with a seven-save effort in goal for the Vikings, while junior Danny Andrade (New Bedford, Mass.) made five stops in the setback for UMass Dartmouth. Salem State outshot the Corsairs by a 21-15 margin overall and held a 5-2 edge in corner kicks on the evening, but the visitors held an 8-7 advantage in shots on goal for the contest.
UMass Dartmouth hosts Eastern Connecticut in a Little East Conference match on Saturday afternoon at Cressy Field beginning at 2:00 pm, while Salem State entertains Massachusetts Maritime in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference outing at Alumni Field that begins at 1:00 pm.
