Men's Soccer Edged by Keene State, 1-0

Oct. 18, 2008

NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA--Alex Horne headed in a corner kick in the seventh minute and visiting Keene State held on to defeat the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth men's soccer team, 1-0, in a Little East Conference match at the UMass Dartmouth Athletic Complex Saturday.

Horne headed in a corner kick by Nathan Gaughan to give the Owls a 1-0 lead. The defenses controlled the remainder of the game.

"It was a great conference match, Alex Horne just got free for a header on a corner kick in the first half, and we just came up a little bit short," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Henry Almeida. "We had a couple of good chances, but we were unlucky. Our defense played well. (Senior defender) Jesse Vezina (Somerset, MA/Somerset HS) and (junior defender) Ronnie Beaudoin (Weymouth, MA/Weymouth HS) played very well in the back for us."
The Corsairs out shot the Owls, 10-8. Freshman goalkeeper Anel Brkic (Milton, MA/Milton HS) and KSC goalkeeper Peter Kersker each made three saves.

UMD dropped to 7-7 and 2-3 in the Little East Conference with the defeat, while Keene State improved to 5-7-3 and 1-3-1 with the victory. The Corsairs will return to action when they visit Lasell Tuesday. Keene State will visit Western New England Sunday.
