NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-Several members of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's swimming team stood out at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational at the Tripp Athletic Center Pool Saturday. No team scores were recorded at the meet.
For the women, winners included senior Kim Moore (Billerica, MA/Billerica HS), who won the 1650 freestyle in 19:34.98, sophomore Katelyn Kidney (Lynn, MA/Lynn Classical HS/Bryant), who took the 200 yard freestyle in 2:06.94, sophomore Morgan Cooper (Sunderland, MA/Frontier Regional HS), who won the 50 yard breaststroke in 33.33 seconds, and the 400 yard freestyle team of junior Maggie Conlon (Methuen, MA/Methuen HS), senior Meredith Maki (Holden, MA/Wachusett Regional HS), Kidney and Cooper with a season best time of 3:56.81.
For the men, freshman Eddie Olean (Seekonk, MA/Seekonk HS) won the 200 freestyle in 1:54.30, the 500 yard freestyle in 5:07.90, and the 200 yard individual medley in 2:13.59, sophomore Conor Szarek (Leominster, MA/Leominster HS), who won the one meter diving with 199.25 points and the three meter diving with 159.10 points, the 200 yard medley relay team of sophomore Matthew Lee (Chelmsford, MA/Chelmsford HS), junior Kevin Janofsky (Brookfield, CT/Brookfield HS), Olean and senior Nick Poliseno (Brockton, MA/Brockton HS) finished first in 1:51.41, and the 400 yard freestyle team of Poliseno, Olean, Janofsky and Lee was victorious in 3:39.78.
"We had some great swims," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Cathy Motta. "I always enjoy hosting this meet, since it gives the student-athletes an opportunity to compete against the clock rather than an opponent to score points. We allowed our athletes to choose the events they competed in today to give them some variety in their meet events."
The Corsairs will return to action when they host Bentley Wednesday evening.
