(Dartmouth, MA) - Cathy Motta won the raffle at her holiday party last week. But the real winner was Toys for Tots.
The head coach for the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's men's and women's swimming and diving teams, Motta was one of more than a hundred people from the Administrative and Fiscal Services Division at UMass Dartmouth who participated in a toy raffle at the division holiday gathering last Friday.
When the winning ticket for the special raffle was picked, Motta was holding the lucky ticket. Instead of winning a necktie or a gift certificate, Motta won the ability to name the charity where the more than 100 toys would be donated.
"I was so surprised to hear my name announced when they picked the winner that the first charity that came to my mind at Christmas time was Toys for Tots," said Motta, a resident of Fall River.
The collection of more than 100 toys gathered from the employees of the Administrative and Fiscal Services Division at UMass Dartmouth were delivered to the Somerset chapter of Toys for Tots in Indian Springs Plaza on Monday afternoon. According to the Bristol County Coordinator for Toys for Tots, Bruce Aldrich, the toys will be donated to worthy charities throughout the region.
