ANNAPOLIS, MD-A member of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's swimming team earned the Corsairs' first medal in open men's diving on the first day of action at the three-day, Eastern College Athletic Conference Championships at LeJeune Hall Friday.

Sophomore Christian Francia (Hampton, NH/Winnacunnet HS) finished fifth in three meter diving with 246.70 points, earning the medal. He finished eighth in qualifying, earning a spot in the final.

For the women, sophomore Katelyn Kidney (Lynn, MA/Lynn Classical HS/Bryant) finished 31st in the 500 yard freestyle in 5:20.28.

"Christian earned our first medal in ECAC open men's diving," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Cathy Motta. "Katie was a bit slower than last weekend, but swam a little nervous. We are hoping for a better performance tomorrow in the 200 yard freestyle."

Francia will take Saturday off, and compete in the one-meter event Sunday.
