WALTHAM, MA-Senior Matt Fahey (New Bedford, MA/Middleboro HS) made it two in a row on the second and final day of the two day New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association Championships, which concluded Sunday at Bentley's Dana Athletic Center Saturday.
For the second day in a row, Fahey took first place in the diving competition. Sunday he won the three meter competition with 396.25 points. Freshman Nathan O'Keefe (Taunton, MA/Coyle-Cassidy HS) of the Corsairs was second with 364.25 points, and freshman Brandon Riendeau (Lakeville, MA/Apponequet HS) finished seventh with 287.40 points. As a result of his performance, Fahey was named Men's Diver of the Meet, as well as Men's Senior Diver of the Meet.
The UMass Dartmouth men finished first in the diving competition, and are in first place with 58 points heading into next week's swimming championships. The women are in sixth place, and will take 13 points into next week's action, courtesy of the eighth place finish by freshman Cecelia Rius (Rockville, MD/Richard Montgomery HS) in the women's one meter competition on Saturday.
"Nate finished first in the men's preliminaries, but Matt had a little more experience, and he came back and finished first in the last six dives," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Cathy Motta. "Nate held his own and did well. It's nice that we're in first place. That's a nice buffer for us going into next weekend's competition."
The Corsairs will return to action at next weekend's NEISDA Swimming Championships at White River Junction, VT.
