WHITE RIVER JUNCTION, VT-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's swimming team finished up well on the third and final day of action at the three-day New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association Championships at the Upper Valley Aquatic Center here Friday. The women finished 11th of 21 teams with 399 points, while the men were fifth of 13 teams with 328 points.
For the women, sophomore Maggie Conlon (Methuen, MA/Methuen HS) was ninth in 100 yard individual medley in 1:06.19, sophomore Lindsay Days (Mattapoisett, MA/Bishop Stang HS) was 22nd in the 200 breaststroke in 2:51.43, junior Kim Moore (Billerica, MA/Billerica HS) was fifth in the 1650 freestyle in 18:42.83, sophomore Meredith Maki (Holden, MA/Wachusett Regional HS) was ninth in 19:28.93, and junior Michelle Favulli (Shrewsbury, MA/Shrewsbury HS) was 24th in 21:01.98, senior Amanda Beahn (Worcester, MA/Doherty Memorial HS) was 24th in the 50 backstroke in 31.93 seconds, and the 400 freestyle relay team if Beahn, Maki, Moore and Conlon was 15th in 3:58.59.
For the men, freshman Eric Frohman (Woodbridge, CT/Amity HS) was sixth in the 50 yard backstroke in 26.76 seconds, while junior Cameron Secrest (Wellesley, MA/Wellesley HS) was 16th in 30.17, sophomore Matt Dean (Londonderry, NH/Londonderry HS) was seventh in the 100 individual medley in 58.61 seconds and junior Nick Poliseno (Brockton, MA/Brockton HS) was 14th in 1:01.66, sophomore Kevin Janofsky (Brookfield, CT/Brookfield HS) was 15th in the 200 breaststroke in 2:30.54, junior Tom Silva (Seekonk, MA/Seekonk HS) was 15th in the 100 freestyle in 51.46 seconds, sophomore Josh Potcner (Brockton, MA/Cardinal Spellman HS) was 17th in the 1650 freestyle in 19:20.18, and the 400 freestyle relay team of Frohman, senior Andrew Haughey (West Springfield, MA/West Springfield HS), Dean and senior Craig Johnson (Acushnet, MA/New Bedford HS) was fifth in 3:22.49.
"It was an absolutely phenomenal meet, people swam faster than they have ever swam in their lives," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Cathy Motta. "It was a great weekend."
The Corsairs will have four swimmers and two relay teams competing at the ECAC Championships in Pittsburgh next weekend.
