Feb. 26, 2010
PITTSBURGH, PA-Two members of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth men's swimming and diving team were in action on the first day of action at the three-day Eastern College Athletic Conference Championships at the University of Pittsburgh's Trees Pool Friday.
Junior Craig Johnson (Acushnet, MA/New Bedford HS) swam a personal best time in the 50 yard freestyle, finishing 23rd in 21.70 seconds. Senior Matt Fahey (New Bedford, MA/Middleboro HS) finished 10th in one meter diving with a score of 189.25 points.
"This was probably the best I've seen C.J. (Johnson) swim from start to finish," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Cathy Motta. "We are anxious to seem how he swims tomorrow in the 100 yard butterfly, his best event. Matt had one dive in prelims that was not good, and prelims only have six dives, so, unfortunately, it cost him a place in the finals. He did follow up with two nice dives and will compete in one meter Sunday."
The meet will continue Saturday and conclude Sunday.
