Swimmers Perform Well at ECAC Championships

PITTSBURGH, PA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's swimming team placed one swimmer and a relay team in the finals on the second day of action at the three-day Eastern College Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships at the University of Pittsburgh's Trees Pool Saturday.

In the 100 yard butterfly, seniors Craig Johnson (Acushnet, MA/New Bedford HS) tied for 15th with a time of 51.67 seconds. He finished 18th in the preliminaries in 51.49 seconds, and advanced to the finals when one of the top 16 swimmers was unable to compete. In addition, the 200 yard medley relay team of Johnson, senior David Adams (Tyngsboro, MA/Tyngsboro HS), freshman Eric Frohman (Woodbridge, CT/Amity HS) and sophomore Matt Dean (Londonderry, NH/Londonderry HS) finished 13th in 1:39.18 after qualifying for the finals by swimming 1:39.47 in the preliminary round. Adams finished 52nd in the 100 butterfly in 54.53 seconds.

"We swam well, and Craig and our relay team were very excited to qualify for the finals," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Cathy Motta.

The championships will conclude Sunday.
