NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's swimming team swept visiting Bridgewater State in a dual meet at the Tripp Athletic Center Saturday. The women won, 158-130, while the men won, 156-93.
Women's winners included sophomore Cecilia Rius (Rockville, MD/Richard Montgomery HS), who won both the one meter diving with a score of 189.20 points and the three meter diving, with 169.60 points, sophomore Morgan Cooper (Sunderland, MA/Frontier Regional HS) who won both the 50 yard butterfly in 28.86 seconds, and the 100 butterfly in 1:03.65, junior Kim Moore (Billerica, MA/Billerica HS), who took the 500 freestyle in 5:48.18, sophomore Lindsay Days (Mattapoisett, MA/Bishop Stang HS), who won the 50 yard breaststroke in 35.72 seconds and the 100 yard breaststroke in 1:20.20, and sophomore Meredith Maki (Holden, MA/Wachusett Regional HS), who took the 50 yard backstroke in 32.03 seconds and the 1000 yard freestyle in 12:18.93. The 200 yard medley relay team of Maki, sophomore Maggie Conlon (Methuen, MA/Methuen HS), Cooper and junior Brittany Dupuis (Milford, MA/Milford HS) finished first in 2:02.02.
For the men, winners included freshman Christian Francia (Hampton, NH/Winnacunnet HS), who won the one meter diving with 211.25 points and the three meter diving with 195.70 points, freshman Eric Frohman (Woodbridge, CT/Amity HS), who won both the 50 yard backstroke in 28.35 seconds and the 100 yard backstroke in 1:00.61, sophomore Chris Dodge (Holden, MA/Wachusett Regional HS), who took the 50 yard freestyle in 24.51 seconds, sophomore Kevin Janofsky (Brookfield, CT/Brookfield HS), who won the 1000 yard freestyle in 12:14.16, and senior Craig Johnson (Acushnet, MA/New Bedford HS), who won the 200 yard freestyle in 2:00.79. The 200 yard medley relay team of Frohman, sophomore Matt Dean (Londonderry, NH/Londonderry HS), senior David Adams (Tyngsboro, MA/Tyngsboro HS) and Johnson was victorious in 1:48.00.
"We swam stronger and more confident tonight," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Cathy Motta. "It is always difficult to swim well at meets held during the evening after a day of classes. I thought overall, it was a great team effort and win for us." UMass Dartmouth's women are now 2-2, while the men are now 2-1. The BSU women are now 1-3, and the men are 0-3.
Both teams will return to action at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational this Saturday.
