NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's men's tennis team won all six singles matches en route to an 8-1 victory over host Salve Regina in a non-conference match at the SRU Tennis Courts Thursday.
At number one singles, senior Karsten Rathlev (Winchester, MA/Winchester HS) defeated Colin Gunning, 6-0, 6-1. Junior Matt Bejtlich (Rochester, MA/Moses Brown HS) downed Ken McCormack at number two, 6-0, 6-1. At number three, sophomore Patrick Lewis (Dorchester, MA/Dorchester HS) defeated Monaf Awwa, 6-0, 6-0. Freshman Dan Chouinard (Westport, MA/Westport HS) downed Khoa Nguyen at number four, 7-5, 6-2. At number five, sophomore Ray Lawton (Fairhaven, MA/Fairhaven HS) defeated Mike Gallerani, 6-0, 6-1. Freshman Jon Reagan (Franklin, MA/Franklin HS) downed Brian Sweeney at number six, 6-1, 6-3.
Bejtlich and Chouinard defeated Gunning and Awwa at number one doubles, 8-0. At number two, Lawton and Reagan downed McCormack and Sweeney, 8-3. At number three, the Seahawks' team of Gallerani and Nguyen defeated UMD freshmen Jake Jaskolka (Mattapoisett, MA/Old Rochester HS) and Malcolm Neville (Foxboro, MA/Foxboro HS), 8-5.
"We played well," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Tom Mendell. "Karsten and Patrick remained undefeated, Jon Reagan got the first win of his collegiate career, and we had a few double winners. Now we've got to get ready for our big match Saturday at UMass Boston."
UMass Dartmouth improved to 2-1 with the win, while SRU fell to 0-8 with the defeat. The Corsairs will return to action when they visit UMass Boston Saturday. The Seahawks will visit Endicott Saturday.
