NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's men's tennis team won all six singles matches and defeated visiting Rhode Island College, 7-2, in a Little East Conference match at the UMass Dartmouth Athletic Complex Tuesday.
At number one singles, senior Karsten Rathlev (Winchester, MA/Winchester HS) defeated junior Alex Werchadlo (Woonsocket, RI/Cumberland HS), 6-1, 6-1. Senior Brennan Dugas (East Falmouth, MA/Falmouth HS/New York City Tech) downed freshman Ben proctor (Cumberland, RI/Cumberland HS) at number two, 6-3, 6-3. At number three, sophomore Patrick Lewis (Dorchester, MA/Dorchester HS) defeated sophomore Mike McCaffrey (Cumberland, RI/Cumberland HS), 6-0, 6-1. Sophomore Ray Lawton (Fairhaven, MA/ Fairhaven HS) downed junior Ted James (West Greenwich, RI/Bishop Hendricken HS) at number four, 6-1, 6-0. At number five, freshman Dan Chouinard (Westport, MA/Westport HS) defeated junior Matt Collins (Rumford, RI/East Providence HS), 6-1, 6-0. Freshman Jon Reagan (Franklin, MA/Franklin HS) defeated freshman Cory Norberg (Pawtucket, RI/St. Raphael Academy) at number six, 6-1, 6-0.
At number one doubles, RIC's Werchadlo and Proctor defeated Dugas and Lawton, 9-8 (7-4). Chouinard and Reagan downed McCaffrey and Collins at number two, 8-4, and the Anchormen's team of James and freshman Cory Duquette (Warwick, RI/Toll Gate HS) won by default at number three.
"I was pleased with the win," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Tom Mendell. "Jon Reagan and Dan Chouinard played well, and Karsten, Brennan and Patrick were their usual selves in singles. It was a good team effort."
UMass Dartmouth improved to 4-3 and 2-1 in the Little East Conference with the victory, while Rhode Island College dropped to 1-9 and 0-3 in the LEC with the defeat. The Corsairs will return to action when they host Johnson & Wales Thursday. The Anchormen will host Salem State Thursday.
