Lions Tame Men's Tennis, 6-3
QUINCY, Mass. -- The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth men's tennis team dropped its first match of the season this afternoon at Eastern Nazarene College, falling to the Lions 6-3 at the ENC Tennis Courts.
The Lions earned their second straight victory to raise their record to 2-0, while the Corsairs slip to 0-1.
Eastern Nazarene swept the doubles competition to take a commmanding 3-0 advantage. The Lions' No. 1 doubles team of junior Sam McKay-Corkum and classmate Tyler Perron edged junior Matt Bejtlich (Rochester, Mass.) and sophomore Dan Chouinard (Westport, Mass.), 9-8. Sophomore Davis Steelman and senior Nick Thompson cruised to an 8-1 victory at second flight doubles, while sophomore Kevin Paterno and Gregory Parenteau closed out an 8-4 decision at No. 3 doubles.
UMass Dartmouth registered its three victories in singles competition, alternating wins with the hosts. In a see-saw affair, Chouinard outlasted Perron at No. 2 singles, winning 6-3, 2-6, 10-6. Classmate Jonathan Reagan (Franklin, Mass.) recorded a come-from-behind victory at fourth-flight singles with a 3-6, 6-4, 8-6 decision. Wilson Hy closed out the visitors scoring with an 8-6 tiebreaker win at No. 6 singles.
UMass Dartmouth will return to action on March 25, when the Corsairs host Becker College. The non-conference match is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
