GORHAM, Maine – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth men's tennis team fell to the University of Southern Maine, 9-0, in the opening day of Little East Conference play this afternoon.
The Corsairs stumble to 1-4 on the year and 1-0 in the conference, while the Huskies improve to 5-3 and 1-0.
Southern Maine held a strong command after doubles competition, sweeping the three matches, 8-2, 8-1 and 8-1. Tyler Adams bested senior Matt Bejtlich (Rochester, Mass.) in No. 1 singles, 6-1 and 6-0. Sophomore Dan Chouinard (Westport, Mass.) fell 6-3 and 6-2 at No. 2, while Ray Lawton (Fairhaven, Mass.) was defeated in the No. 3 slot in straight sets. The Huskies added insurance wins in the 4, 5 and 6 singles matches to complete the sweep.
UMass Dartmouth returns to the court on Thursday, April 10, when the Corsairs travel to Holy Cross for a non-conference match. The time of the contest is to be determined.
