GORHAM, Maine – In a rematch of the 2015 Little East Conference men's tennis championship match, Southern Maine repeated the victory as they defeated visiting UMass Dartmouth 7-2 Saturday afternoon. UMass Dartmouth's loss snaps a two game winning streak to fall to 2-7 and go to 1-1 in conference action. Southern Maine remains unbeaten as they improve to 6-0 on the year and 3-0 in the Little East.
Southern Maine captured all of the matchups besides No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles, which went the way of the Corsairs. The first two pairings in the doubles were taken by the Huskies, as both pairs nearly swept the Corsairs 8-1 in both matchups. The No. 3 combination of freshman Anthony Joseph (Fairhaven, Mass.) and senior Tony Xie (Beijing, China) downed the pairing of senior Sebastian Taylor (Auburn, Maine) and sophomore Robert Stowe (Hampden, Maine) 8-2.
At the top flight singles, Tyler Adams (Buxton, Maine) defeated senior Dan Chouinard (Westport, Mass.) 6-1, 6-2. The second pairing looked like the first as junior Kyle Curley (Gorham, Maine) downed junior Corey Rafter (Franklin, Mass.) to the same score.
No. 3 singles saw senior Eric Berry-Sandelin (South Portland, Maine) dispatch freshman Ian Patriarca (Springfield, Mass.) by a 6-3, 6-2 score. Joseph fell to sophomore Samuel Holland (Falmouth, Maine) 6-1, 6-2 in No. 4 singles. Xie and Taylor matched up at No. 5 singles, with Taylor taking the set 9-8 (10-6).
The lone victory for the Corsairs in the singles matchup came as senior Jake Jaskolka (Mattapoisett, Mass.) beat Stowe 8-1 at the No. 6 slot.
UMass Dartmouth will return to action when they travel to league foe Rhode Island College on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
