BOSTON –Despite close matches at No. 2 and No. 4 singles, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth men's tennis team fell to UMass Boston 9-0 in the Little East Conference opener for both squads on Sunday at Boston College High School.

How it Happened
The Beacons got off to a quick start in doubles, as the combination of Austin DeLasse (Mexico City, Mexico) and Alexander Comerchero (Brookline, Mass.) dispatched Corey Rafter (Franklin, Mass.) and Anthony Joseph (Fairhaven, Mass.) at No. 1, 8-0. Justin Torres (Dighton, Mass.) and Mark Desmond (Braintree, Mass.) dropped an 8-1 decision to Onkgoptse Mokoka (Pretoria, South Africa) and Tin Tran (Quincy, Mass.) at No. 2 doubles. At No. 3 doubles, Zach Pavao (Somerset, Mass.) and Summer Forest-Bulley (Turners Falls, Mass.) fell to Ray Platteel (Holbrook, Mass.) and Guang Huang (Quincy, Mass.) 8-3.
The Beacons then finished the job in quick work at singles. DeLasse defeated Rafter 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, and Tran sealed the match at No. 3 over Torres with the same score. Pavao fell at No. 5 to the hands of Platteel 6-1, 6-4.
Joseph lost in a tightly contested first set 7-6 (7-3), 6-0 to Comerchero at No. 2 singles. Mokoka took down Desmond 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6, and Forest-Bulley was the last Corsairs to fall. After winning the first set 6-4, he slipped in the final two to Sanshrut Sharma (Mumai, India) by 3-6, 10-2 margins.
