EASTON, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth men's tennis team fell in its season opener versus Stonehill, 9-0, as the Skyhawks won in straight sets in all singles matches.

How it Happened
The pairing of Patrick Pacheco (Dartmouth, Mass.) and Anthony Joseph (Fairhaven, Mass.) took on Trent Newman (Old Greenwich, Conn.) and Tom Buckley (Hebron, Conn.) in doubles competition, with the Corsairs ultimately losing by a score of 8-2. The second and third doubles matches featured the duos of Tristin Viale (Westfield, Mass.) and Eli Brooks (Franklin, Mass.), followed by Zach Pavao (Somerset, Mass.) and Nicholas Beaudoin (Fairhaven, Mass.), but each pair lost 8-0 to their respective opponents.
In singles play, the Stonehill six swept their competition in consecutive sets. Five Corsairs battled throughout their matches, winning three sets at least once per match, but the Skyhawks went on to close out each competition with a home victory. Brooks put forth the closest effort, dropping 6-3, 6-3 to Jeffrey Gagnon at the No. 4 slot. Pacheco was bested by Newman at the top singles flight, 6-3, 6-1.
