NORTON, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth men's tennis team opened its spring schedule on Saturday, falling to Wheaton College by the 9-0 final at the Beard Field House.

How it Happened
In doubles, the Lyons took a three-point lead in the match, sweeping each game in single sets. The UMass Dartmouth tandems of Patrick Pacheco (Fall River, Mass.)/Eli Brooks (Franklin, Mass.) and Tristin Viale (Westfield, Mass.)/Anthony Joseph (Fairhaven, Mass.) battled in the opening games, both falling in 8-4 decisions.
In the singles portion, Wheaton sealed the outcome with back-to-back victories as sophomore Jorge Aguirre Martinez (Madrid, Spain) and junior Jeremiah Ryser (Cross River, N.Y.) earned straight-set victories over Pacheco and Viale. UMass Dartmouth had their closest matches in singles come from Joseph and Brooks who were downed by their opponents 6-3, 6-3, and 6-4, 6-3 respectively. Mark Desmond (Braintree, Mass.) and freshman Pat O'Neil rounded out the Corsair competitors.

- With the win, the Lyons increase their winning-streak against the Corsairs to four games.
The Corsairs have a 14-day hiatus before their next matchup when it takes on Rutgers-Newark at home on March 10 with 1:00 pm start.
