How It Happened
After forcing the opening match of doubles into a tiebreaker, where Patrick Pacheco (Fall River, Mass.) and Eli Brooks (Franklin, Mass.) were downed by their opponents, the Corsairs took the final two matches during the session to take a 3-1 lead. Tristin Viale (Westfield, Mass.) and Anthony Joseph (Acushnet, Mass.) vanquished their opponents in a closely-contested 8-6 battle, before Zach Pavao (Fall River, Mass.) and John Fratus (Yarmouth, Mass.) closed doubles in the opposite fashion it began, defeating the foes on the other side during the tiebreaking set.
In singles play, UMass Dartmouth strung together three more victories to claim the match as Pacheco and Viale fought hard to take their respective matches in three sets. Joseph secured the victory as he defeated his opponent 6-2, 6-1 to cruise to a match decision. Pavao earned the final point for the Corsairs, as his 7-5, 6-0 final split the remaining two points from the visiting Wildcats
UMass Dartmouth starts conference action on Saturday when it travels to take on Western Connecticut at 1 p.m. Johnson & Wales goes against Clark University on April 3 at 3:30 p.m. in its next contest.
