PORTLAND, Maine – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth men's tennis team wrapped up its regular season with a convincing 8-1 victory over the University of Southern Maine this afternoon at the Racket and Fitness Center. The Corsairs earned the No. 3 seed and a home match in the upcoming Little East Conference Championship tournament.

How It Happened
UMass Dartmouth raced out to an early 3-0 lead after winning all three doubles matches. Graduate student Patrick Pacheco (Fall River, Mass.) and freshman Eli Brooks (Franklin, Mass.) defeated the Huskies' No. 1 doubles team, 8-2. Junior Anthony Joseph (Acushnet, Mass.) and freshman Tristin Viale (Westfield, Mass.) blanked the hosts' second-flight squad, while senior Zach Pavao (Somerset, Mass.) and sophomore Mark Desmond (Braintree, Mass.) edged Southern Maine's No. 3 doubles combination, 8-3.
The Corsairs carried the momentum into the singles portion of the match, winning five of the six pairings in straight sets. The top of the UMass Dartmouth ladder easily handled the Huskies. Pacheco posted a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 1 singles, Joseph followed with a 6-1, 6-0 decision, and Brooks posted a 6-0, 6-1 win. Pavao won in a superset, 8-3, while Desmond capped the visitors' scoring with a 6-3, 6-0 victory at No. 5 singles.
UMass Dartmouth will host sixth-seeded Bridgewater State University at 3:30 pm on Tuesday, May 1 in the first round of the Little East Conference tournament. The Corsairs posted a 9-0 win over the Bears on April 24.
