How it Happened
The recent success in doubles was reversed as the Corsairs found themselves in an early 3-0 hole to begin the contest. The pairing of Patrick Pacheco (Fall River, Mass.) and Eli Brooks (Franklin, Mass.) battled with Andrew Muttiah and John Didonato before being upended 8-4 in the game. Tristin Viale (Westfield, Mass.) and Anthony Joseph (Acushnet, Mass.) came even closer to earning an equalizing point, as the duo were staved off in an 8-5 loss in the second game of doubles.
With the 4-0 deficit facing them, the Corsairs extended the contest longer following back-to-back wins during the singles portion. Viale delivered the first of the needed victories when he took down Chen Chen 6-2 in the first set, before edging his opponent 7-5 to close it out. Joseph provided the Blue and Gold with its second point of the match when he defeated Didonato, battling into an extra-set before taking the point 6-3. Brooks nearly made it three in a row, taking his match with Roni Bazile into a third set as well, but the freshman's valiant effort fell just shy with Bazile nabbing the final point to send his team to the LEC Championship game.
