LEICESTER, MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's men's tennis team lost only five games in sweeping host Becker, 9-0, in a non-conference match at Alumni Field Monday afternoon.
Four Corsairs were double winners. Freshmen Troy Pandolfi (Danbury, CT), Karsten Rathlev (Winchester, MA/Winchester HS), Brian Lui (Medfield, MA/Medfield HS) and Zach Engstrom (Taunton, MA/Taunton HS) each won both of their matches.
Pandolfi defeated Charles Heard at number one singles, 6-2, 6-0, and Rathlev downed Snjezan Talbak at number two, 6-0, 6-0. They combined to defeat Heard and Talbak at number one doubles, 8-0. Lui defeated Jake Gilbert at number five singles, 6-0, 6-2, and Engstrom downed Peter Rota at number six, 6-0, 6-0. They defeated Tim Howard and Matt Clewer at number two doubles, 8-1.
"We played very well," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Tom Mendell. "Everyone played well, we got some guys some experience, and it was a good win."
UMass Dartmouth improved to 4-1 with the victory, while Becker dropped to 2-6 with the defeat. The Corsairs will return to action when they visit Bridgewater State Tuesday.
