BOSTON, MA-Five players were double winners as the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's men's tennis team defeated host UMass Boston, 8-1,in a Little East Conference match at the Boston College High School Tennis Courts Monday.
Junior Brennan Dugas (East Falmouth, MA/Falmouth HS/New York City Tech) made his UMass Dartmouth debut a successful one, defeating T. Lang at number two singles, 6-1, 6-0, and teaming with sophomore Karsten Rathlev (Winchester, MA/Winchester HS) to defeat Seth Shavers and Himanchu Dubey at number one doubles, 8-3. Rathlev downed Shavers at number one singles, 6-0, 6-1.
Sophomore Mike Parker (Scituate, MA/Scituate HS) defeated Dubey at number three singles, 6-1, 6-3, after teaming with freshman Matt Bejtlich (Rochester, MA/Moses Brown HS) to defeat Lang and Andrey Boguslavskiy at number two doubles, 8-1. Bejtlich downed Lyle Analetto at number four singles, 6-0, 6-2. Sophomore Cody Zygmont (Swansea, MA/Case HS) defeated Quentin Hure at number six singles, 6-3, 6-2, and combined with junior Mike Fink (Sagamore Beach, MA/Sturgis Charter School) to defeat Analetto and Hure at number three doubles, 8-3.
"It was good to get Brennan into the lineup, he looked very good, especially in singles," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Tom Mendell. "Brennan and Karsten are going to be a tough team to beat in doubles. It was a good team effort, and it was a good match for us leading up to an important match against Rhode Island College tomorrow."
The Corsairs improved to 4-0 and 2-0 in the Little East Conference with the victory, while the Beacons dropped to 1-8 and 0-3 with the defeat. UMass Dartmouth will return to action when they host Rhode Island College Tuesday afternoon. UMass Boston will host Salem State Tuesday.
