Men's Tennis Players Earn Little East Conference Honors

April 21, 2009

NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-Two members of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's men's tennis team have been honored by the Little East Conference.

Sophomore Mason Viau (Marion, MA/Bishop Hendricken HS/Connecticut) has been named Little East Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week, and freshman Troy Pandolfi (Danbury, CT) has been named LEC Men's Tennis Rookie of the Week.

Viau won all of his matches last week at number one singles and number two doubles as the Corsairs defeated Bridgewater State and Western Connecticut State. Pandolfi won five of six matches last week at number two singles and number one doubles, and won against Becker at number one singles. Both Viau and Pandolfi are undefeated in Little East Conference play this season.

"Mason seems to be able to raise his game when he's in a tough match, or he is behind," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Tom Mendell. "He's done it a number of times this year. Troy has all the shots, is smooth, and is a pleasure to watch. He is a good all-around player. Their success bodes well for us for the future."

UMass Dartmouth is 7-1 and 3-1 in the Little East Conference. The Corsairs will return to action when they visit Albertus Magnus Wednesday.
