BOSTON, MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's men's track and field team on the second day of action at the two-day Boston University Terrier Classic at the Boston University Track and Tennis Center Saturday. The women's competition was held Friday. No team scores were recorded at the meet.
Freshman Phito Gondre(New Bedford, MA/New Bedford HS) ran 6.84 seconds in the 60 meter dash trials before coming back to run 6.85 in the finals to finish third. Gondre was the highest finishing collegiate student-athlete in the race, and his time in the trials should rank as one of the top times nationally in NCAA Division III. Gondre also finished seventh in the long jump, leaping 21 feet, 8 ½ inches.
In the triple jump, sophomore Chris Perry (Providence, RI/Dighton-Rehoboth HS/BCC) was fourth at 47 feet, 3 ½ inches. Sophomore Zach Switaj (Tamworth, NH/Kennett Regional HS) was fourth at 800 meters in 1:56.65, the fourth fastest time in school history, and sophomore Matt Hinthorne(Braintree, MA/Braintree HS) ran 1"57.69, the fifth fastest time in school history.
In the high jump, freshman Adam Jones (Amesbury, MA/Triton Regional HS) finished sixth at 6-4 ¾. At 200 meters, senior Hymlaire Lamisere (Newton, MA/Newton North HS/Iona) finished in 22.93 seconds, the sixth fastest time at UMass Dartmouth, while freshman Kenoa Culverhouse's (Salisbury, MA/Triton Regional HS) time of 23.14 was the seventh best at UMD and freshman Francois Cherduville's(Brockton, MA/Brockton HS) time of 23.21 was ninth best. Culverhouse also ran the 60 meter hurdles in 9.04 seconds, the fourth best time at UMD.
"We certainly had some nice performances," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Steve Gardiner. "We have to make sure that each individual can perform at their highest level when we go to the conference championships in two weeks. We have two weeks to work on making sure we have a consistent performance across the board."
The Corsairs will return to action at Tufts next Saturday.
