Men's Track Does Well at New England Division III Championships

LEWISTON, ME - The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's men's track and field team at the New England Division III Championships at Bates' Merrill Gymnasium Saturday.

Sophomore Adam Jones (Amesbury, MA/Triton Regional HS), who won the Little East Conference and New England Alliance championship a week ago, won the high jump at 6-6, after coming close three times at 6-9.  Freshman Grunde Brandso (Dartmouth, MA/Dartmouth HS) was fifth in the shot put with the second best throw at UMass Dartmouth, 48 feet, 5 ½ inches, while sophomore Cody Lusas (Melrose, MA/Melrose HS) was ninth with a personal best toss of 45-9.

At 1000 meters, sophomore Matt Ferro (Halifax, MA/Silver Lake HS) was seventh in a personal best time of 2:34.96, sophomore Aaron Amado (Randolph, MA/Thayer Academy) was eighth in the triple jump at 42-5, and freshman Justin Conor (Holden, MA/Wachusett Regional HS) was third in the 60 meter hurdles in a personal best time of 8.79 seconds.

"We had a solid performance across the board, and we had several personal bests," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Steve Gardiner. "I was pleased to see Grunde continue to throw so well. Cody Lusas has worked hard for two years and made the finals, so we're pleased for him, and Adam Jones just missed at 6-9."

The Corsairs will return to action at the Open New England Championships at Boston University next weekend.
