NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Seniors Brett Croteau (Rehoboth, Mass./Dighton-Rehoboth) and Matt Hinthorne (Braintree, Mass.) qualified for the 2014 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships, according to the participant list released this morning by the NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Committee.
Croteau will be participating in the javelin event, while Hinthorne will compete in the 800-meter run. The top 20 declared student-athletes in each event earned a berth into the national meet, which will be hosted by Ohio Wesleyan in Delaware, Ohio between May 22 and 24.
Croteau is making his second straight appearance at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The Rehoboth, Mass. product will enter the national meet seeded ninth in the 20-person field. Croteau registered his best throw of the season at the New England Division III Championship, when he unleashed the spare 62.26 meters (204-03) to place second overall. Croteau is scheduled to compete at 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 24.
Hinthorne will be making his debut at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships and second overall appearance at a national championship meet during the 2013-14 academic year. The native of Braintree, Mass. set a new UMass Dartmouth standard in the 800-meter run at the New England Open Championships. Hinthorne crossed the finish line at one minute, 50.58 seconds to post the eighth fastest time in Division III. He will attempt qualify for the finals at 8:15 p.m. on Friday, May 23. The finals are scheduled the following afternoon at 3:45 p.m.
