DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Junior Kevin Cutler (Attleboro, Mass.) jumped 2.09m to capture the high jump at the New England Division III Championships, held at two separate locations Saturday afternoon. The UMass Dartmouth men collected an eighth place finish among the 26 schools, while the women claimed 21st amongst 31 schools.
Eight Corsairs, including four men and four women, earned All-Division III New England accolades as top-eight finishers on the meets. The men competed at MIT, while the women's meet was hosted by Middlebury.
Cutler bested the field of 17, reaching a height just a half an inch shy of his current school record. His mark puts him tied for seventh in all Division III. Freshman Joao Baptista (Somerville, Mass.) collected the fourth place finish in the high jump with a height of 1.89m.
Junior Chris Cennami (Peabody, Mass.) was the first of three to finish in third place. Cennami collected the third place finish in the 60m final with a time of 7.02, which puts him third all-time in Corsair history. Freshman Alex MacMillan (Brockton, Mass.) collected the bronze in the 200m dash in 22.51.
The third team to claim a third place finish was the women's 4X400. The combination of senior Laquaysia Anderson-Jenkins (Brighton, Mass), senior Summer Jones (East Bridgewater, Mass.), sophomore Raybryana Dasher (New Bedford, Mass.) and junior Hunter Carden (Branford, Conn.) finished with a time of 4:04.8.
Anderson-Jenkins placed 12th out of 29 runners in the 200m dash with a time of 26.47. Jones picked up a 13th place finish in the 400m Junior Reme RiGiovanni (Southborough, Mass.) was a little under four seconds from her personal best time in the mile with a time of 5:20.83 on the day.
The Corsairs will compete in the Open New England Championships at Boston University next weekend, a track that has been a solid surface for both teams this season. The meet is the second to last before the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships.
