Anderson-Jenkins, Cutler Highlight Performances at Open New England Championships

BOSTON – UMass Dartmouth senior LaQuaysia Anderson-Jenkins (Brighton, Mass.) posted a new school record on Friday, highlighting seven Corsair Indoor Track & Field performances on the weekend at the NEICAA Open New England Championships at Boston University.

The men gathered 10 points on the meet, as 36 teams scored. The University of Rhode Island took the title with 126 points. On the women's side, 32 teams turned in points, as Northeastern topped the standings with 157 points.

The meet, the third for UMass Dartmouth at the BU Tennis & Track Center this season, consists of competition from all three Divisions in New England. Athletes must meet the NEICAA qualifying standards with their performances during the indoor season in order to compete at the Open.

Anderson-Jenkins turned in a time of 25.49 in the 200-meter dash, breaking the previous UMass Dartmouth standard of 25.61 set by Jillian Van Ness in 2012. On the event, the senior placed 13th out of 28 runners, most from Division I squads.

In the men's meet, junior Kevin Cutler (Attleboro, Mass.) collected his second-straight New England meet title in as many weeks in the high jump. He bested the field of 11 to record a clean jump, clearing 2.04m (6-8.25) to better athletes from URI, Maine, Central Connecticut, Franklin Pierce and Fitchburg State by two inches. He remains tied 10th nationally in the event heading into the closing two weeks of the indoor season.

On the track, Chris Cennami (Peabody, Mass.) finished his weekend as one of the top 16 runners in the 60-meter dash, advancing to the meet's semifinals with a Friday preliminary time of 7.07. In Saturday's semis, he missed advancing to the finals in the top-eight by only two-hundredths of a second, posting his second-best time of the season at 7.03.

Two other Corsair women, senior Summer Jones (East Bridgewater, Mass.) and sophomore Raybryana Dasher (New Bedford, Mass.), both competed in the 500-meter run, finishing within a second of each other. Jones placed 14th, posting a season-best time of 1:18.89 as the top finisher in the event outside of Division I. Dasher was right behind in 16th, turning in a time of 1:19.29.

Freshman Alex MacMillan (Brockton, Mass.) competed in the 200-meter dash, finishing in 22.25 to place 14th of 30 runners. Wrapping up the meet for UMass Dartmouth was sophomore Jared Louf-Woods (Salem, Mass.), who finished 15th of 21 to register a throw in the shot put. He tossed a distance of 14.47m (47-5.75).

The Corsairs will have one last chance to register national qualifying performances at Tufts next Saturday. The Division III National Championships will be held March 11 and 12 at Grinnell College in Iowa.
