Tencati Competes in Javelin at NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships

MEN'S JAVELIN RESULTS

GENEVA, Ohio – University of Massachusetts Dartmouth sophomore Stephen Tencati (Clinton, Mass.) competed on Thursday at the 2017 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships at the SPIRE Institute, placing 20th in the men's javelin.

Tencati recorded a distance of 143-07 (43.76m) on his opening throw in the second flight of the preliminaries, following with a toss of 143-01 (43.62m) before passing on his final attempt.

Thursday marked Tencati's second appearance in as many seasons as a Corsair at the NCAA Championships, as he placed 16th in the javelin at last year's national meet. The Clinton, Mass. native culminates a record-breaking sophomore campaign; he etched his name into UMass Dartmouth program history at April 2's Corsair Classic with a school-record throw of 211-10 (64.56m) to better the previous standard of 205-01 set by Hall of Famer Bruce Zapasnik in 2005. On April 29, Tencati repeated as the Little East Conference champion in his event with a throw of 199-00, and competed at both the New England Division III Championships, placing fifth at 198-00, and the NEICAAA Open New England meet, taking 11th with a mark of 190-11.

The NCAA Championships continue the next two days, with Corsair junior Jared Louf-Woods (Salem, Mass.) making his national championship debut on Saturday. Louf-Woods will compete in the hammer throw at 1:30 p.m. as the 10th seed.
