MEDFORD, Mass. – For the second time in as many meets, University of Massachusetts Dartmouth senior Jared Louf-Woods (Salem, Mass.) put for a school-record performance in the weight throw, as the Corsair track and field squads hauled in 14 top-10 finishes at the unscored Tufts Invite on Saturday.
Louf-Woods increased the school-record mark he set on Dec. 2's UMass Boston Invite, claiming the event win by nearly five inches in the weight throw at 61-9.5 (18.83m). That distance bettered his mark of 59-6.5 at UMass Boston Through Saturday, Louf-Woods' mark sits as the top weight throw distance in Division III thus far on the season. He coupled the performance with a third-place finish in the shot put, posting a mark of 47-10.5 (14.59m).
Also registering a personal-best in the field events was junior high jumper Joao Baptista (Somerville, Mass.), who cleared 6-8 (2.03m) to place second on progressions. With the finish, he qualified for the Open New England meet and surpassed his previous indoor best by two inches.
On the women's side, sophomore Danielle Devine (Bernardston, Mass.) put forth a qualifying mark for the Division III New England meet, finishing fourth in the high jump at 5-0.5 (1.54m). Classmate MacKenzie Garvey (Plymouth, Mass.) continued her strong start to the indoor season, also qualifying for Division III New Englands with a fifth-place distance of 38-2 (11.63m) in the shot put.
Wrapping up the Division III New England qualifying marks was senior Raybryana Dasher (New Bedford, Mass.) in the 600-meter run, timing in at 1:43.30 for a third-place time. She additionally collected eighth place in the 200-meter dash in 27.75.
Sophomore Travis Dolcine (Somerville, Mass.) crossed the line in 2:01.09 to collect fifth place in the men's 800-meter run, with freshman Bruno Pires (New Bedford, Mass.) earning fourth in the 3,000-meter run in 9:07.60.
For the women, freshman Emilea Lauzon (Lakeville, Mass.) placed sixth in the 400-meter dash in 1:04.03. Sophomore Jessica O'Reilly (Millis, Mass.) took seventh of 32 competitors in the mile with a mark of 5:38.58, and freshman Chayla Ewing (West Wareham, Mass.) sprinted her way to the 10th-place time in the 60-meter dash, timing in at 8.43.
Dolcine joined with freshman Moisse Irizarry (Peabody, Mass.), senior Tyree Gorham (Brockton, Mass.) and sophomore George Papoulis (Haverhill, Mass.) to earn third of 11 squads in the 4x400-meter relay in 3:29.35. The women's 4x200-meter relay grouping of Dasher, Ewing, Lauzon and junior Taryn Carley (Kingston, Mass.) used a time of 1:56.42 to gather fifth place.
The Corsair track and field teams are back to competition next Saturday, traveling to Springfield College for the Maroon & White Classic.
