The UMass Dartmouth men’s indoor track & field team claimed three Little East Conference weekly awards on Monday afternoon for respective performances at the season-opening UMass Boston Indoor Open last Saturday at the Reggie Lewis Center.
Senior Jared Louf-Woods (Salem, Mass./Salem) was named as the Little East Field Athlete of the Week after taking took top honors and setting a school indoor record in the shot put (16.45 meters/53 feet, 11 ¾ inches) while posting a runner-up finish in the weight throw (17.97 meters/58 feet, 11 ½ inches). The three-time All-America will compete for the final time as a collegian at the Rhode Island College Invitational on Saturday, December 8th.
Junior All-America George Papoulis (Haverhill, Mass./Haverhill) was tabbed as the Little East Track Athlete of the Week after setting a meet record and posting a first place performance in the 1,000 meters (2:30.99), and he joined up with senior Mike Tierney (Norton, Mass./Norton), junior Delpiero Beaumont (Dorchester, Mass./Urban Science Academy) and sophomore Moisse Irizarry (Peabody, Mass./Peabody Veterans) to claim the conference’s Relay Team of the Week. The quartet recorded a fifth place performance in the 4 x 400 meter relay on the world renowned track with a time of 3:33.67.
Head Coach Mike Salem’s Corsairs will be idle until Saturday, January 12, 2019 when UMass Dartmouth travels to Medford, Mass. to compete at the Tufts Invitational that begins at 10:00 am EST.
