Papoulis Advances To NCAA Men's Indoor 800 Meter National Championship

ROXBURY, Mass. --  UMass Dartmouth junior All-America George Papoulis (Haverhill, Mass.) qualified for the national title race in the 800 meters on Friday evening at the 2019 NCAA Division III Men’s Indoor Track & Field National Championships hosted by UMass Boston at the Reggie Lewis Center.

Papoulis finished second in his heat and sixth overall to advance to the 800 meter finals on Saturday afternoon at 4:05 pm, as he posted a time of 1:53.82.  Wisconsin-Eau Claire junior Tyler Lueck posted the top qualifying time in the event with a mark of 1:51.50.

George is looking to improve upon his fourth place finish in last year’s 800 meter national championship race, as the seven-time all-Little East performer became the 31st All-America performer in program history a year ago.

Senior Joao Baptista (Malden, Mass.) competed for the Corsairs in the national high jump championship, but the reigning Little East title holder did not advance past the preliminary round.
