NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- Three members of the 20th-ranked UMass Dartmouth men’s outdoor track & field team earned All-New England honors for their performances on the final day of competition at the 2019 New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association Championships hosted by Southern Connecticut.
Senior Joao Baptista (Malden, Mass.) finished second in the high jump after matching New Haven’s Dante Gonzalez’s mark of 2.01 meters/6 feet, 7 inches, while junior All-American George Papoulis (Haverhill, Mass.) was the top Division III performer in the 800 meters after posting a fourth place time of 1:51.12 in the event. Freshman Kaiden Swainamer (Lakeville, Mass.) rounded out the Corsair All-New England trio after placing eighth in the shot put with a mark of 15.51 meters/50 feet, 10 ¾ inches, as all three join junior All-American and Open New England javelin champion Jordan Entwistle (Northboro, Mass.) in capturing All-New England accolades. UMass Dartmouth posted a team score of 24 points to finish 10th overall, as the Corsairs were third among Division III entrants in the competition.
UMass Dartmouth travels to Cambridge, Mass. on Thursday afternoon to participate in the MIT Final Qualifier Invitational that begins at 5:00 pm.
