NEW YORK, NY-Two school records fell as five members of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's indoor track and field team were in action on the second and final day of action at the two-day Eastern College Athletic Conference Championships at the New Balance Armory Saturday.
Senior Eric Nygaard (Medway, MA/Medway HS) broke his own school record while finishing was seventh in the mile in 4:14.81. Nygaard scored the only two points of the meet for the Corsairs.
At 1000 meters, junior Meagan Bohigian (Barre, MA/Quabbin Regional HS) also broke her own school record. She finished 10th overall in 3:00.18.
Junior Robert Yarbough (Fall River, MA/Durfee HS) finished 15th in the 35 pound weight throw with a toss of 50 feet, two inches. At 500 meters, sophomore Matt Hinthorne (Braintree, MA/Braintree HS) finished 14th in 1:06.08, while sophomore Kyle Costa (Somerset, MA/Somerset HS/Vermont) was 15th in 1:06.18.
"It was an honor for our people to qualify for a meet like this, and be able to compete here in a great facility," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Steve Gardiner. "It's a nice way for these kids to be able to cap their season. It was nice to see Eric get another school record, and for Meagan to drop six seconds from the school record she set a few weeks ago. She has knocked 19 seconds off her time from last year, because she worked hard and trained well. She certainly earned it."
Freshman Chris Perry (Attleboro, MA/Dighton-Rehoboth HS/BCC) will represent the Corsairs at the NCAA Division III Championships at Capital University in Columbus, OH next weekend.
